Fabulous Friday – French Arm Chairs

image

It’s Fabulous Friday! One of my fabulous favorites is the French arm chair. My parents had a set in their formal living room and I was always fascinated with them. I loved all the attention to detail; the carving of the wood, the tapestry, and over all look of the chairs. Being a child of the 80’s, let’s face it, furniture was ugly.  At least it was to me, so…not…my taste! I’ve always had a “thang” for French style decorating, maybe due to these chairs, IDK?

I lost both of my parents to cancer (horrible disease and a future post) so in a way, these chairs comfort me.❤️ On Christmas morning we would open our presents in “The Formal Living Room” (yes, I used air quotes when talking about this room because it was reserved for formal/special events.) naturally, I always had to sit in one of the French chairs! Photos of dressing up with your BFF’s, dance recitals, Proms, you name it, were taken with these chairs – happy memories. I now own them and they proudly sit in my “formal living room”.

I don’t think I could ever paint my parent’s chairs, for sentimental reasons. I like the memories I have when I look at them.

A couple of weeks ago my BFF gave me a set to restyle (stay tuned for their transformation) finally finished this one yesterday. I’m quite pleased with the result and love how you can change the look with something as simple as a lumbar pillow…

Fabulous Friday the 13th – Oh Deer!

image

For Fabulous Friday the 13th, I share with you – Antlers!
image

I have a strange obsession with antlers, also known as deer sheds, and I love to decorate with faux taxidermy!  My home has a rustic glam look and antlers seem to help tone down the glam.  We are all vegetarians in this house, so when asked why we have animals in our dining room, I just reply, “We dine with our friends, not on them.”

There are so many different ways to decorate with antlers, you can use paint, ribbons, flowers, the possibilities are endless!  Here are a few ideas, that I love, from Pinterest:

Fabulous Friday – The Porter’s Chair

Introducing…
image
For my first “Fab Friday” post I share with you – The Porter’s Chair! They are one of my many obsessions and I would love to add one to my home decor. What is a Porter’s chair you ask?
image
It’s quite a unique chair that dates back to medieval England and later France. They were kept by the front entries of castles and large estates for the porter, or gatekeeper, to use during their watch. Since there was often a cold draft by the front door, the chair was designed with a high domed back to help keep the porter warm.

If you browse the internet, you will find several modern day versions available for purchase, but the one I am obsessed with is the Versailles chair from Restoration Hardware.  You can customize in assortment of  colors and fabrics ranging from linen to velvet and even your choice of wood finish.  Mine would be made of  Belgian linen in the color sand, with a burnt oak finish.  Ahhh, major coziness factor!

I think it would make a great statement piece in my living area.  What are your thoughts?

Have a Fabulous Friday!
